How to verify a journal's website

Journal hijacking happens more than most researchers realise, especially once a journal's original domain lapses: someone else registers it, keeps the name and ISSN, and starts collecting manuscripts or fees under a title that was never theirs. None of the checks below are specific to EJQRP — use them on any journal you're not sure about.

  1. Start from the ISSN, not a search result. Look the ISSN up in the ISSN Portal and follow the URL recorded there.
  2. Cross-check DOAJ. For open-access journals, DOAJ lists the journal URL, fees and licence. A mismatch with the site you are on is a red flag.
  3. Resolve a DOI. A real article DOI resolves through doi.org to the publisher's platform, not to the site asking for your paper.
  4. Check fees against the record. A site asking for payment when DOAJ says “no APC” is not the journal.
  5. Treat metric claims with suspicion. Clone sites often show an “impact factor” from an unknown agency. A real Journal Impact Factor comes only from Clarivate’s Journal Citation Reports, and CiteScore only from Scopus. JournalFees explains how to spot a fake impact factor and check Scopus indexing.
  6. Look at who runs the site. Legitimate journal sites name the publisher and editors and link to them. Anonymous sites with generic contact forms deserve suspicion.
  7. Consult hijacked-journal lists, such as the Retraction Watch Hijacked Journal Checker, before submitting.

The official platform is openjournals.ljmu.ac.uk/ejqrp, per DOAJ's own record — that's where the actual journal lives. This site, europeanresearchjournal.com, is an independent reference built to sit alongside it: it doesn't accept submissions, doesn't review anything, doesn't take payments, and has no authority to speak for the journal. If any of that ever seems to change, assume the platform above is right and this site is wrong.
